"I prefer to work in a relatively small scale, enjoying intricate detail and well-balanced shapes. I am interested in creating pieces that people will interact with, such as vases that hold flowers, oil candles, and boxes with lids to open. I make miniature treasure chests with a surprise detail hidden inside. Exotic or unusual woods, burls, and Banksia pods are my materials of choice. Often my pieces are decorated with gemstones, mirrors, or gold leaf. Occasionally I will leave some of the natural exterior of a burl or pod intact, delighting in the contrast between that rough texture and my highly polished turned work."
