"In order for a piece to be truly successful, form and function, decoration, and firing must come together. I feel subtleties such as the size of a foot, whether a piece works best squat or tall, and how the glaze/decoration compliments various forms can be best understood through the evolution of working in series. I love this process in spite of the time and dedication required and the myriad of unsuccessful pots that result. I am influenced by the great tradition of functional pottery, my environs, designs found in textiles, and the fluid movement of Chinese and Japanese calligraphy. Ultimately, I hope to instill a fluidity and grace akin to my inspirations in every piece."
