"I
am still a sucker for the gee-whiz feeling that comes from making a
pot from clay dug out of the side of a hill, or a road-cut, or the leavings
of an abandoned clay mine. My wheel-thrown stoneware pots are decorated
with thick clay slips composed of several native clays. I experiment
with local materials to see what happens if fireplace ash, low-fire
red clay, or granite dust is added to a glaze. I also try to pay attention
to form, line, and color, as well as the varying effects of heat on
these interesting materials." <= back to Briggs |
