Harriet's
medium is batik. Her technique differs from traditional batik in that
dyes are painted directly onto the fabric using watercolor brushes.
Wax is then applied with a tjaunting tool and acts as a resist to the
dyes, which are then painted over the wax. Harriet is the author and
illustrator of several children's books. She explains her unique and
whimsical style: "My work reflects a playful approach to the world.
A jackrabbit flies through the sky, bears dance under the moonlight,
and fish may fly - the animals call out to the child that is in all
of us." <= back to Peck-Taylor |
